N. J. Brandt ran the General Store in Whitewater for many years starting in the teens. See, for example, his listings in the 1919 and 1931 R. G. Dun Directories. In 1920 N.J. Brant was, essentially, the entire town. The 1920 Bradstreet lists the population of Whitewater as 3(three) people. By 1931, the population of the town was up to about 60.
